Sails Up 4 Cancer (SU4C), based in Mystic, CT and founded in May of 2011 is a 501(c) 3 charity organization “dedicated to funding education, prevention, care, and cure for all types of cancer through the art and enjoyment of sailing.” SU4C has partnered with organizations including Holmgren Subaru, WindCheck Magazine, CT River One Design Regatta Group, CT Spring Boat Show, Coastal CT Cornhole, and River Jam, to raise awareness and facilitate fundraising efforts. SU4C has assisted many local cancer centers plus individuals and families, with their Spinnaker Fund tailored specifically to families struggling financially while battling cancer.

“2024 has been a special year already,” said Bob Davis, President and Founder of SU4C and two-time cancer survivor. “We kicked off February with our first Creating Hope Gala where Sails Up received a citation from Senator Heather Somers on behalf of the General Assembly of Connecticut, in recognition of our support for cancer families needing financial assistance.”

“We are now moving into a very busy spring and summer with the CT Spring Boat Show in Essex, (April 26-28); the annual Cornhole tournament (June 14) and our Annual Regatta and Post Regatta Shore Party (June 15). Both events are hosted by our friends at Mystic Shipyard. We are continually grateful for the support we receive from the business community and our friends and neighbors. Thanks to them, we’ve earned respect and praise as a cancer support organization that continues to give direct financial assistance to struggling cancer patients.”

Celebrating fourteen years, SU4C looks forward with enthusiasm, optimism, and success in continuing to fulfill its mission. “Working with Bob Davis and the Sails Up volunteers is incredibly satisfying – knowing that 100% of funds raised goes to helping cancer patients is a reward in and of itself,” said Courtney Moore, SU4C volunteer. “The Cornhole tournament is almost sold out – in less than a week. Having the support of the community is amazing.”

The Sails Up 4 Cancer Regatta is open to serious racers as well as “weekend cruisers.” SU4C would like to emphasize that it’s not only about racing. It’s about supporting a great cause while having fun. Racing begins in Fishers Island Sound at noon. Registration is $50 per yacht and includes two tickets to the Post-Regatta Shore Party. Trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in each class at the Shore Party starting at 5pm with BBQ, silent auction, music from Andre & Friends and open bar with wine, beer and the famous Dark-n-Stormy!
