Our friends at Noroton Yacht Club in Darien, CT are hosting the inaugural Viper 640 Women’s North American Championship and the 2021 Viper 640 North American Championship on October 2 & 3 and 7 – 10, respectively.

“The original plan was to hold a two-day Women’s International Championship, a two-day North American Championship, and a four-day World Championship this coming October,” Viper 640 Class Administrator Buttons Padin explained. “Because it appears likely that COVID restrictions will prevent our Australian and European contingents from getting to Connecticut, we are making the women’s event the North American Championship and turning the four-day Worlds event into the North Americans.”

“The first Women’s North Americans is a huge thing for us as the Class has been keenly proactive in trying to get more and more women crewing…and helming,” Padin continued. “So we can have some scale this first time out of the gate, all we’re requiring is a woman helm and the other two crew can be of either gender. There are currently 35 boats registered for the NAs on October 7 – 10, and we expect over 50 boats come October. Remember that trailer spots are being awarded by order of registration. Hurry up and register if you want a good spot.” Registration for both events via YachtScoring.com can found at viper640.org/events/. ■
