Our friends at Thames Yacht Club in New London, CT are hosting the first ever Cal Brouwer Memorial Shorthanded Challenge on Saturday, June 29. Honoring Calvin K. Brouwer, who managed sailboat races on Long Island Sound, Fishers Island Sound and the Thames River for more than half a century, this inaugural event is exclusively for shorthanded racers.

Classes may include Single- and Double-handed, Spinnaker and Non-Spinnaker depending on entries. The course of approximately 15 to 25 miles will start off Thames YC near the mouth of the Thames River, proceed around government marks and finish back at TYC. There will be a 25-minute start window, and the race committee will record start times for each boat. Finish times will be self-reported by racers.

Moorings will be available at TYC before and after the race, and dinner will be served at the club after the race. For suggestions, questions or more information, contact Dave Knecht at racing@thamesyc.org. ■
