I have mentioned this before. I like to beach. I remember as a junior sailing kid, we used to call the less proficient kids, or adults for that matter, “beachers.” And of course, ugly boats were called “beacher craft.” “Can you believe that beacher tacked on us? So un-cool!” Or, “Check out that beacher craft in the channel…thing is soooo ugly!” I suppose it was less rude than “check out that POS 36,” but still, we certainly were arrogant little pricks.

Inside this issue, is the Save the Sound Beach Report article. There is a QR code on their ad on the inside back cover which takes you to their very cool web page and directory. It gives me a guide to where I am going to take my wife to spend quality days beaching this summer. The craft is ready to go in the water. The floaties are out of the basement and ready to be shipped aboard. We even scored a new marine grill to seriously upgrade our beach dining.

So in this issue, there is plenty to digest while on the beach. You can plan your racing schedule via the full-page ads for three big events to focus on. There is the Sail Park City Regatta, organized by Fayerweather and Black Rock Yacht Clubs and sailed out of Bridgeport, and the Around Long Island Regatta hosted by Sea Cliff Yacht Club, now with the option of a 250-mile course. These should be warm ups for the big event in August, the Antigua and Barbuda Hamptons Challenge, sailed in Noyack Bay on the East End of Long Island and officiated by the Peconic Bay Sailing Association. If you win that one, you get a free trip and charter to next year’s Antiqua Race Week. Yup, that’s correct. OK, so once you have those logistics organized, settle back and enjoy a bit of cruising content like a destination article about Stonington Harbor. We don’t often do those, so it is a bit of a treat.

I am contemplating this weekend’s Block Island Race forecast.
Models are calling for light northerlies. I am praying that it doesn’t take us too deep into Saturday to miss out on quality beach time.

See you on or near the water!
