‘Lessons from the Wizard’ Focuses on Character
Quicklier Film Partners, the team that produced MELGES: The Wizard of Zenda, is releasing a new educational film for sailing schools. Lessons from the Wizard is an instructional film that focuses on the attitude and character of a sailor. The trailer is available for viewing on Vimeo.
Like the full-length documentary, this 50-minute video chronicles Buddy’s extraordinary sailing career. But Lessons from the Wizard shines the spotlight on what Buddy learned from the sport – and what his peers learned from him by sailing with and against him.
Wizard of Zenda documentary Executive Producer Anne Peterson is joined by sailing author, analyst and America’s Cup champion Gary Jobson in hosting the video. Other key partners in the project are the James M. Schoonmaker II Foundation and The Sailing Foundation of New York. “As a young sailor in Lake Geneva, I learned so much from Buddy, said Executive Producer and host Anne Peterson. He made me a better sailor, but what I remember most are the life lessons he taught me. Things like learning from my losses, listening to Mother Nature, and sailing fair. That’s what Lessons from the Wizard is all about.”
Thanks to the Schoonmaker Foundation, the educational film is free for download by any sailing school or nonprofit organization. Quicklier is also offering DVDs of the film for resale and fundraising. Sailing schools, non-profits and yachts clubs can request a free license for Lessons from the Wizard at WizardofZenda.com or by emailing the producers at sail@wizardofzenda.com.
The feature length documentary, MELGES: The Wizard of Zenda, is available for rental or purchase and in-person or virtual screenings. ■
