In this behind-the-scenes guided tour of The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk, you’ll make the morning rounds and help as the staff feeds an amazing assortment of hungry animals.  You can take a turn hand-feeding diamondback terrapins, horseshoe crabs and rays, and enjoy an exclusive connection with a trainer while watching a private feeding of the harbor seals. Venture out on the Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk’s 64-foot Spirit of the Sound™, the country’s only research vessel with hybrid-electric propulsion, for an close-up look at six historic lighthouses: Peck Ledge, Greens Ledge and Sheffield Island lighthouses in Norwalk; Penfield Reef Lighthouse in Fairfield; Black Rock Harbor Light in Bridgeport; and Stratford Shoal (Middle Ground) Light. On the weekend before Father’s Day, bring Dad to check out some of the finest rides ever named for fish and marine mammals in The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk’s second auto show. Cars include Barracudas, Marlins, Sting Rays, Porsche “Whale Tails,” a Daimler Dart SP250 known for its “catfish mouth” front end…and maybe a few “mussel” cars, too. The meanest “mussel” car at last year’s show was a 1970 Hemi ‘Cuda that won several races and hillclimbs…

Seal Spotting & Birding Cruise

This 2.5-hour cruise aboard Spirit of the Sound™, a 65-foot catamaran running quietly on hybrid-electric propulsion, seeks out seals near the Norwalk Islands as they “haul out” to rest on rocks exposed at low tide. Birders have unique “on-the-water” access to see and photograph visiting winter waterfowl such as buffleheads, mergansers, Brant geese and long-tailed ducks. Tickets are available at maritimeaquarium.org or by calling 203-852-0700, ext. 2206. Space is limited, and advance reservations are strongly recommended.
