Brooklyn Boatworks, a Brooklyn, New York-based non-profit organization with a mission of “Encouraging, Inspiring, and Empowering young people through boat building & sailing,” is hosting its annual Student Spirit Boat Launch & Regatta on Monday, June 10 at Pier 2 in Brooklyn Bridge Park.  

“This joyous event celebrates the accomplishments and hard work of young boat builders, ages 10 through 18,” said Marjorie Schulman, Executive Director of Brooklyn Boatworks. “At noon we will hold a brief graduation ceremony, featuring Dawn Riley, world-renowned competitive sailor and Executive Director of Oakcliff Sailing in Oyster Bay. Afterwards, students will set sail in their boats for the first time ever in what is sure to be a momentous experience. Students will participate in sailing and a variety of maritime-focused off-water activities until 4pm.” 

Working inside New York City middle schools and educational organizations, Brooklyn Boatworks offers a unique boat building program that builds students’ skills and encourages positive behavior development, promoting excellence by creating learning environments grounded in respect, support and dignity for all students.
