Editor’s note:  Here’s a message about a new doublehanded “pick-up game” race from our friend Adam Loory:

Fellow Doublehanded Social Distance Racers,

Saturday’s race is coming together and the weather looks like it will cooperate. Below is a list of the 21 boats that have told me they will be sailing on Saturday, May 23 for our race around Stratford Shoal. The fleet will be divided into two classes. Class 1 has boats rating 66 and slower. Class One will start first. Class 2 has boats rating 63 and faster. Saturday’s race will use the standard Rule 26 start. The warning for Class 1 will be at 10 am and the start of Class 1 will be at 10:05. The warning for Class 2 will be at 10:10 and the start for Class 2 will be at 10:15.

Fellow Doublehanded Social Distance Racers,
Saturday’s race is coming together and the weather looks like it will cooperate. Below is
a list of the 22 boats that have told me they will be sailing on Saturday, May 23 for our
race around Stratford Shoal. The fleet will be divided into three classes. Class 1 will be
for boats that rate slower than PHRF 100. Class 2 will be for boats rating between 60
and 100 and Class 3 will be for boats rating faster than 60. The race will use the
standard Rule 26 starting procedure. The warning for Class 1 will be at 10 am and
the start will be at 10:05. The warning for Class 2 will be at 10:10 and the
warning for Class 3 will 10:20.
The starting line will be between Green B “1” east of Little Captain’s Island
and our committee boat which is the black colored MJM 40 named Dragon
Lady. PHRF time on time will be used for scoring. There will be scoring by
class and by fleet. Here are the sailing instructions:
 Boats to be sailed doublehanded to respect the need for social
distancing.
 The race will start and finish off Bell “1” east of Little Captain’s Island at
the mouth of Greenwich Harbor.
 The start will be standard Rule 26 starts. No class flags are required.
 The first warning will be at 10 am GPS time.
 Stratford Shoal Lighthouse shall be rounded to Starboard
 There will be a provision for a 27-mile short course if the wind forecast
is light.
 Class 3 will sail the short course that goes from the start rounds 11”B”
off Eaton’s Neck port, rounds “24” off Westport’s Kokene Island to port
and then back to the finish.
 Racers should monitor VHF 16 during the race and 5A before the start
and when approaching the finish. Remember, in doublehanded racing,
for safety reasons, radio communication between boats is legal.
 All boats shall take their own finish time when Gong 1 is a boat length
away and bears 000° from a compass in the cockpit. Email or text your
finish time to me at: adam@uksailmakers.com or C: 914-954-0660
 If you decide to drop out for any reason, please email or text me.
 Instead of an entry fee, I am requesting that each skipper and crew
member make a donation of $100 or more to the
Larchmont/Mamaroneck Food Pantry.
Here is a direct link to their PayPal contribution
form. https://www.paypal.com/us/fundraiser/charity/1338966
We should be grateful to enjoy our passion to sail and let’s give back to
the community at the same time. After you have made your donation,

please send me a note so that I can keep a running tally of how our
racing is helping the community.
