Our friends at Stamford Yacht Club in Stamford, Connecticut hosted the 53rd Annual Regatta for the Dorade Trophy, a Junior Sailing Association of Long Island Sound big boat event, on Monday August 10.

The Stamford YC race committee, led by PRO Ray Redniss, was only able to run a single race in the very light breeze, but the young sailors on six boats (two J/109s, a J/111, a J/105, an X322 and a Figaro 2) didn’t seem to mind.

“Amazing watching these kids jockeying J/105s and J/109s in the pre-start and then having them all hit the start in a line in an orderly non-fiberglass-swapping way,” said photographer Rick Bannerot. “Their chute sets and takedowns were virtually immaculate, and I didn’t see a bad jibe under kite.”

Taking the bullet was Libertas, a J/111 representing Pequot Yacht Club in Southport, Connecticut. Complete results are posted at
