Eighth Huntington Lighthouse Parade of Lights

Boat parades are a time-honored tradition in communities across the country. In 2010, the Huntington Lighthouse Preservation Society decided it was time for Huntington to have its own. There are many area residents who don’t have the opportunity to get on a boat and experience water activities first hand, so the parade is a great way to “bring the light to the shore” while raising public awareness about the ongoing preservation efforts at the Lighthouse.

This year there is a new twist!  Captains have spoken and we have listened.  They have asked that the date be moved earlier in the month, so this year we have moved it a few weeks earlier.  Hence – FREESTYLE!  Decorate however you would like!  Any theme with good spirit is welcome!  Holiday, Fall, Thanksgiving, Sports, Sea & Maritime….let your imagination wander.  Have a business?  Well then decorate to show it off!  Let’s have some fun and get the creative juices flowing.  Join us on Facebook or check out our website for up-to-the-minute updates. 

BOATS/VESSEL PARTICIPATION

Prizes in ten categories: Best in Show, Best Sailboat, Best Powerboat, Best Corporate Boat, Best Theme Boat, Most Creative, Most Elegant, Most Outrageous, and Best Music & Animation and Free Style.  (And, who knows, maybe we will think of more). There is a $50 boat registration fee.

VIEWING THE PARADE

There are many areas along the harbor (the boat ramp, behind the Halesite firehouse, Gold Star Beach, etc.) to view the parade. Local businesses and residents are also encouraged to hold viewing parties as a way of creating your own fundraiser for the Lighthouse.  For more details and up-to-the-minute information visit our Facebook page.
