Sailors for the Sea, a Newport, RI-based ocean conservation organization that engages, educates, inspires and activates the sailing and boating community, and Oceana, the world’s largest international conservation organization focused solely on protecting and restoring the world’s oceans, are joining forces.

The New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association’s Freshman Championship – The Priddy Trophy – hosted by Sail Black Rock (SBR) at Captain’s Cove Seaport in Bridgeport, CT on April 22, 2017 has earned silver certification as a Clean Regatta from Sailors for the Sea.

To reverse this trend, our friends at Sailors for the Sea in Newport, RI have launched a campaign called Skip a Straw – Save a Sea Turtle.

Stanford ecologist Paul Ehrlich put it best when he said, “In pushing other species to extinction, humanity is busy sawing off the limb on which it perches.” If phytoplankton can’t survive in the acidic seawater we have created, we stand to lose 50% of our oxygen supply and the very foundation of the ocean’s food chain.

The boating community exists in the boundary where land meets water, and today that boundary’s location is changing due to the impacts of global warming.

Sailors for the Sea, a Newport, RI-based conservation organization, will partner with the Cruising Club of America (CCA), an international organization of over 1,300 sailors, to further both organizations’ commitment to protect the ocean.
