While the young sailors on board Team Alvimedica are racing around the world in the Volvo Ocean Race, they are leaving in their wake significant donations to a children’s heart health charity at the 10 stopover ports. The team and its owner, medical devices company Alvimedica, have unveiled an ambitious World Heart Health Charity Tour, a global initiative to raise funds and awareness for heart health.

ABU DHABI, December 30 – Team Alvimedica have won their claim for redress after they diverted course to sail to the assistance of the grounded Team Vestas Wind in Leg 2 of the Volvo Ocean Race.
They originally placed fifth out of the six finishers in the stage from Cape Town to Abu Dhabi but an independent ISAF jury hearing ruled that the time lost assisting Chris Nicholson’s crew on the night of November 29 cost them a position.

The youngest team in the race hopes to fulfill a seven-year dream of competing in the Volvo Ocean Race by winning it. Alvimedica is skippered by Charlie Enright of Bristol, RI, and the other Americans on the roster are General Manager Mark Towill of Kaneohe, HI (Under 30), Nick Dana of Newport, RI (Under 30), and OBR Amory Ross (Newport).
