Stonington, CT - New England Science & Sailing Foundation (NESS) announced today it is accepting applications for its C. D. Mallory Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded annually to a student entering grades 9-12 and interested in learning how to sail or advancing their sailing skills. The scholarship covers program fees for a full summer of sailing instruction. This will be the third summer NESS awards the Mallory Scholarship.
The C. D. Mallory Scholarship Fund was established in 2011 through a generous gift by Barbara Sealy Mallory Hathaway in memory of her late father, Clifford Day Mallory, Sr. This gift is now part of NESS's permanent endowment.
NESS encourages all interested students and their families to visit their website www.nessf.org and submit a scholarship application by May 30. NESS's Scholarship Committee will make the selection based on the student's "passion for life on and around the sea, as well as C. D. Mallory's qualities of quiet but steadfast leadership, kindness, humor, teamwork, sportsmanship, loyalty and confidence to follow his or her own path in life to make a difference in others."
Each spring, this scholarship is awarded to provide free-of-charge access to NESS's world-class sailing instruction for exceptional students in need of financial support.
