It is sponsored by the Marion Bermuda Cruising Yacht Association and organized by the Blue Water Sailing Club, one of the three sponsors of the Marion Bermuda Race along with the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dingy Club and the Beverly Yacht Club. Storm Trysail Foundation Hands-on Safety-at-Sea Seminar,Throggs Neck, NY, April 18, 2015

The hands-on subjects will include firefighting, damage control, man-overboard rescue, liferaft deployment and use and emergency pyrotechnics. The seminar will be supported by educational videos and on-line learning produced by Gary Jobson and US Sailing. These programs will cover required subjects and will be made available to attendees through the internet prior to the seminar itself.

Attendees will each be provided with a free copy of “The Art of Seamanship”, a new five hundred-page compendium on the subject of seamanship authored by Storm Trysail member Ralph Naranjo. Hard copies will be distributed at the time of registration or if requested, an eBook version can be sent prior to the seminar. Excerpts on various subjects from Ralph’s book will also be sent via email beforehand.

A test on all the subject matter covered will be administered at the end of the day. Attendance at the seminar and successful completion of the test will bring full ISAF certification for those who wish to achieve it. With four ocean races being conducted on the east coast next spring and early summer, we expect a high demand for such certification.

The seminar will use new facilities at SUNY Maritime College so we’re enlarging attendance to 300 people. You do NOT have to be an ocean racer to attend. All boaters are welcome! The subjects being taught are important no matter where you sail.

Admission cost is $295.00 and includes coffee and breakfast pastries in the morning, lunch and refreshments in the afternoon.
